In the Community
At WS Development, we recognize that being a positive contributor to the community can take many forms. We strive to establish positive relationships with each community we’re part of embracing the community through charitable giving, fundraising support, onsite events, and more. We’ve taken an active role in both national and local civic organizations, have sponsored charitable events, and have helped fund children’s programs and concerts for seniors. We’ve organized holiday events and contributed to a variety of charitable organizations.
From the communities in which we’re located, we typically receive the most positive feedback from our onsite events. For these, we often partner with community members and our retailers and to produce or support events ranging from shopping center-wide, multi-day extravaganzas to celebrity appearances to in-store book signings and demonstrations.
In addition to our annual holiday events, here’s a sampling of some of other events we hold at centers around our portfolio:
• Braveheart Awards—honors everyday heroes who make a difference in the community. The event, which takes place at Wareham Crossing in Wareham, MA, successfully integrates celebrity appearances, music, art displays, children’s activities and center-wide retailer participation to support fund-raising for the causes such as the Cape Cod Cares and the Special Olympics.
• Skating at Hidden Pond—visitors that come to skate at Hidden Pond enjoy a healthy winter activity and can sample food and beverages from Derby Street Shoppes’ restaurants, frozen yogurt shops, and bakeries. There’s music, ice sculptures, and much more.
• Family Movie Night—families share lawn chairs and blankets and watch popular films under the stars. Our most popular showings traditionally happen at The Shoppes at Farmington Valley in Canton, CT.
• National Night Out—the annual event to promote crime/drug prevention takes place at The Crossing at Smithfield and involves the community, law enforcement, and retailers. There’s music and food among learning opportunities for adults and children. For instance, the Smithfield Police teach parents about proper car seat installation and host a bicycle safety program featuring a "track" where children can test out safety techniques they’ve learned.
Again, this is a just a sampling of what we do to engage with the communities we’re part of. Visit our shopping center websites to find out about events coming to a location near you.
